Confused
Every time a new emoticon is added to the legend as an inside joke, there is always drama about legend updates or the emote dictionary.
What's up with that?

I remember there was a lot of drama when

and

got added... and now in the llama emperor's whine-journal I see a whole bunch of comments from emoticonists complaining over that
"dA doesn't care about emotes", "this is a punch in the face to the emote community", "we need more user friendly emotes"...Just think about this: How important is it really to you that we get more emotes in the legend? Does it really matter that much?
In chat, journals, news, custom boxes, polls, notes and deviation descriptions you can pretty much use any emoticon that has every been created! The only place where you can't do this is comments, replies and the shoutbox. You want more emotes in your comments?

Really? I like putting words there... followed by more words, and some punctuation marks here and there. ..and I think the emotes we already have in the legend right now are more than enough to
help express what we are feeling. In my opinion, you don't need an emoticon that tells exactly how you feel, you can do that with words. There are even thousands of plz-accounts out there you can use to express whatever you want!
[link] Am I missing something here? If you disagree with anything that I've said above then let me know why this is so important. ...and I don't want to hear things like "plz-accounts break the structure in the text" ...you are writing a comment, not an essay

What I find even more bizarre is the drama around updating older emotes in the legend. Come on!

It's a tiny face you put next to your sentence. Does it really matter that it looks a little bit shinier, or has better shading?
I'm an emoticonist because I like
creating emoticons. Of course it makes me happy when I see other people using them, but for me having them in the legend is the same as having them as plz accounts. Having them in the legend even means there's a bigger chance that people won't know that you created it!
So dear emoticonists, lets forget about the staff for a second. Forget about whether they care or don't care about the emote community
(they probably don't xD ). Why is it such a big deal to you to have more/updated emotes in the legend?
Something as small as this:

, should not cause this much drama.
How to move on..
Think about it logically. dA is going to keep improving the website in ways that attract more and more members. Or ways that please the
majority of the members. Do you really think adding new emotes to the legend or updating the ones they have is going to attract more members to the site?
The comic displayed in the llama emperor's journal needed over 10000 favorites before the staff even decided to do anything about it. There aren't even a thousand members within the emoticon community. Do you think a handful of people complaining is going to make a difference?
Instead of getting angry every time they add an inside-joke to the legend, try this:
Accept that they legend will
never get updated, and that the emoticon dictionary will never arrive. Accept that the emote community is too small for the staff to care about, and updates such as this will always get pushed lower as issues concerning a larger part of dA gets brought up. This way you won't get disappointed, and when something eventually does happen you will be
pleasantly surprised!
In case you are not familiar with dA outside of the emote community, they always make promises they can't keep. So this is not enough reason to claim that they don't care about emoticonists.
TL;DR: Stop whining and make more emoticons!

any thoughts?
